This Speedster is a classic beauty!
It comes with a traditional GT Silver exterior with a wine Allante interior which includes the seats, door cards, dash cover and eyebrow, rear package shelf pad, gear shifter boot, and brake handle boot. The front trunk and interior carpet is German Square Weave in black with a touch of grey in the weave. This is an iconic color combination and never grows old. The Derrington style wheel with Porsche crested horn button just feels right in the driver’s hands and adds to the timelessness of the interior.

This Speedster was originally built by Vintage Speedsters of Hawaiian Gardens, CA in 2001. When the current owner acquired the car in 2014 it had about 13K miles on the odometer. During its current ownership period numerous upgrades have been done to the car including: Relays for the headlights to improve nighttime visibility, gas struts added to the front trunk, a Setrab oil cooler, new original style Bosch ignition switch, Porsche 356 wipers from Sierra Madre Collection, new Dual Tone Hella horns with relay, custom stereo system which includes a 500 watt JL Audio amplifier, 10” JL Audio subwoofer in a custom enclosure, and 6 1/2” Cerwin-Vega coaxial speakers in the kick panels, a CB Performance rear camber compensator, an EMPI front sway bar, new grey painted 10 slot wheels with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Routine maintenance done in the past year includes new front discs and pads, and new rear pads for the drum brakes.

This Speedster was built on a 1960 VW chassis mated to a custom built steel subframe and has a clean California title as a 1960 VW. It is exempt from smog certification requirements in California and most other states. This Speedster wears an original black on yellow 1956 YOM plate with a 1960 registration sticker which meets the requirements for a YOM plate in California.

The car had been driven for about 23K miles before a brand new 2110cc motor, built by Pat Downs, was installed in 2018. The new motor had 278 miles added to the odometer before the Speedster was fitted with a new gauge set that includes a GPS driven speedometer, new 8K RPM tachometer, combo gauge, and all new matching senders. Currently mileage on the motor is 3,166 miles. At the time the new motor was fitted a brand new Rancho built four speed transaxle with a final drive of 3.88:1, heavy duty side plate, and welded gears was also installed.

In 2021 the Speedster was sent to Greg Leach at Vintage Motorcars, Inc in Hawaiian Gardens and received a fresh coat of GT Silver paint, an entirely new interior in wine Allante that includes new seats, new dash cover and eyebrow, new door cards with map pockets, new rear package shelf pad, new shift boot and new brake handle boot, new German Square Weave carpet on the interior and the front trunk, new body seal rubbers on all of the exterior parts, new license plate light, new tail lights, new body trim, all new Porsche scripts, new horn grills, brand new Coco mats and a performance matched A-1 exhaust for the 2110cc motor.

The Speedster also comes with side curtains, a rear luggage rack, vintage suitcase with vintage travel stickers, leather luggage straps, car cover, and a full tonneau cover as well as a quarter tonneau cover.

The engine is a custom built 2110cc Type 1 making 150hp at 5600 rpm with peak torque at 153 ft lbs from 4200-4600 rpm. Dual Webber carburetors with Vintage Speed air filters and Vintage Speed linkage, an A-1 Sidewinder exhaust, and a brand new 4 speed manual transmission 3:88 Freeway Flyer transmission.
